The risk also is another in patients who are alcoholic and own cirrhosis, although the risk is less. Third, existing and newer techniques for liver cancer surveillance probably should be applied to all patients with both chronic viral hepatitis and cirrhosis and possibly to patients with both alcoholism and cirrhosis. Fourth,we need to develop better techniques for liver cancer surveillance. A satisfactory solution to the problem of liver cancer in chronic viral hepatitis and alcoholism will not be quick or easy.

Conosco personalmente Alessandro Maugeri,anzi Alex Maugeri,fin da quand'era adolescente e da allora non ha mai smesso di incuriosirmi e per questo voglio dedicare qualche dovuta riga e un'intervista.Maugeri e' uno che ci ha sempre creduto senza mai scoraggiarsi,e trovandosi ad affrontare il cambiamento degli anni si e' sempre erudito adattandosi senza per questo essere ambiguamente camaleontico.Di certo e' un artista "PURO".Uno di quelli che non desiste neanche a morire ma piuttosto segue la sua strada quando gli altri lo abbandonano.Sono suo concittadino,per quanto non originariamente.Lui era un mio fan a quindici anni ed io mi sono sentito sempre dare del "Suo Maestro".E la cosa mi lusinga perche' se penso che qualcuno a distanza di anni,non pochi(sono trenta ormai...)mi tributa per qualcosa di involontario,non posso che esserne felice.Ricordo di questo stramagrissimo ragazzo cosi' impazzito per David Bowie da sembrare un po' strano in una citta' poco anticonformista come Messina.Lui,di famiglia molto borghese e importante,era cosi' molto poco borghese.Si definifa un anarchico ma era ovviamente la moda di quegli anni.Pur conservando quel piglio snob da ragazzetto viziato ma colto.Voleva diventare il Lou Reed Italiano e si esibiva con gruppi improbabili di musica new wave,dark o simili fino a trovare una sua identita' insieme al suo alter ego musicale Gabriele Marino,personaggio schivo ma geniale della cultura musicale Messinese fino ad oggi.Credo ci sia del materiale eccellente da qualche parte.Ricordo di lui come supporter insieme al suo gruppo ultraelettrico ma tecnologico per i Simple minds,ma anche per un Vasco Rossi ancora non famosissimo a Letojanni,e ancora Paul chain e tanti altri.La musica la coltiva ancora sconfinando su altri generi ma concedendosi,sempre da snob quale e' rimasto,delle performances da qualche parte a sorpresa e che mi e' capitato di seguire.E sempre con la stessa sicurezza professionale e padronanza di palco.poi il tentativo di emigrare come tanti altri Siciliani,ma che mai del tutto hanno realmente abbandonato l'isola e gli esordi nazionali su Match Music e TMC 2 dove finalmente viene riconosciuto come personaggio d'avanguardia,intrattenitore multiforme con grande bagaglio d'esperienza capace anche di scriversi i testi ma anche di dirigersi e dirigere.Ma pochi ricordano che Alessandro maugeri non ancora ventenne presentava le "piazze" oltre ad esibirsi come front man di un gruppo rock e a venti anni essere un notissimo volto delle televendite d'arte e non solo.Particolare questo forse che vorrebbe dimenticare,non lo so.Poi la fotografia insieme al suo maestro di glamour Mimmo Irrera e da sempre grande amico e complice e poi ancora solo televisione e scrittura.La mia intervista che segue occorre per ridare una giusta luce,di anni bui che ci hanno separati,per mie storie personali e per lui chissa' dove.Alessandro maugeri e' una persona che non dimentica e mi ha cercato dopo quasi trent'anni e mi ha ritrovato in provincia di Viterbo.Neanche "Chi l'ha Visto" o "Carramba" sarebbe riuscita in tale impresa,merito della complicita' di una sua ex fiamma di sempre,storica figura personale del nostro.Adesso la mia curiosita' verte su una sua nuova colta iniziativa e in una veste che non conoscevo,ovvero quella di produttore,e mi riferisco al progetto sulle Ambasciate Straniere chiamato "SIBILLA IL SALOTTO DELLE CULTURE".E a lui preme,generoso come sempre,di mettere al centro dell'attenzione la sua nuova partner artistica per cui si evince unattenzione fuori dalla norma.Ma gossip a parte ascoltiamo un po' Alessandro Maugeri:

M-Non si parla cosi' in genere di una collaboratrice artistica...

A-Non sono il biografo di Monia Binni ma certamente un ammiratore.Mi ha colpito la sua lucidita' nel vedere le cose per come effettivamente sono,la sua capacita' d'introspezione mai banale e secondo me ricercatissima,la sua sensibilita' spiccata che deriva da storie e lacerazioni e ferite e in questo mi somiglia tanto.Credo sia un perfetto alter ego mio.Il tempo e la frequentazione ci dira' e svelera' tutto se lei avra' la pazienza di sopportarmi e seguirmi.Non ti nascondo che all'inizio ci sono stati dei gap comunicazionali.Ma ho imparato li'.Qualche anno di differenza tra me e lei eppure sto imparando davvero tante cose.E' una ricchezza credimi.Poi sappi che lei e' una grande appassionata di Freud ed e' capace di farti analisi da brivido,ma non amo tutto questo perche' sostiene di non esserne all'altezza.Eppure mi sono trovato davanti a delle verita' piu' con lei che con una mia precedente frequentazione di amicizia che e' una professionista proprio in questo campo.

A-Perche' oltre ad essere dotata di una particolare sua bellezza ha un appeal fuori dal comune.Anche gli altri se ne innamoreranno.Trasmettera' come ha trasmesso a me tutto questo suo bagaglio interiore che arrivera' allo spettatore come un ciclone.

A-Fare questo o quel nome significherebbe non dare un equilibrio tra tutti.Tutte le persone che hanno lavorato o "giocato" con me sono state importantissime,nel bene e nel male.Ho imparato sempre anche dai miei sbagli.E comunque ho portato loro sempre fortuna nel mio piccolo.Alla fine hanno trovato la loro giusta dimensione.Provavo gli stessi strumenti sperimentandoli con persone nuove.E comunque mi sono divertito tanto.
M-Avrai avuto anche qualche delusione...
A-Tutti abbiamo delusioni.Io continuo sempre ad enfatizzare delle persone che poi mi deludono per scarse capacita'.Ma non perche' non siano all'altezza ma perche' mi ero posto irragionevolmente per loro delle cose che non erano poi cosi' ovvie o naturali dall'altra parte.
M- tuoi idoli,i tuoi punti di riferimento in questo lavoro o in altro di te?
A-Da piccolo sognavo di diventare una rock star e mi sentivo tanto David Bowie.Ahime' non avevo il suo viso,forse solo la magrezza.Ho continuato sempre a seguire Bowie,figurati che il giorno del suo compleanno qualcuno mi fa gli auguri.E' stato per me un grande compagno di percorso.Attraverso lui ho scoperto tante cose,da Lindsay Kemp da cui poi sono andato ad istruirmi su pantomima e altro,al teatro kabuky,e per essere come lui ho imparato a suonare il sassofono,la chitarra e ho imparato a cantare.Siamo stati la prima cover band di Bowie in Italia credo.Ti ricordi?Aprimmo con "RebelRebel" il concerto dei Simple mInds...

A-I miei idoli rock erano anche idoli letterari.E sempre per Patti Smith ho conosciuto Burroughs,la scena Americana e quel fantastico modo di scrivere.Con Lou Reed il senso della parola sulla musica,con Jim Morrison le letture di Rimbaud,Blake e di scrivere poesie.Poi mi piaceva Simone De Beauvoir e tanti tanti altri.La musica mi piace tutta e sono un ricercatore musicale.Sappi che a quindici anni conducevo un programma chiamato "On the Road" in una nota radio privata di Messina,e poi continuai perche' la mia voce microfonicamente era gia' credibile.

A-Perche' nessuno me lo chiede mai.Ho fatto trasmissioni importanti radiofonicamente e anche meno famose ma per me molto importanti.Ricorderai di trascorsi Rai quali "Notte Rock" e "La notte dell'iguana" che poi mi ribattezzarono in altro modo.Avevo una sigla strepitosa da piccolo per una mia trasmissione che si chiamava "Una storia fantastica" che sembrava il promo di Ben Hur.Gia' allora coltivavo ambizioni.La sigla era della P.F.M. M-Televisivamente?
A-Il mio idolo era Lelio Luttazzi su tutti.Ma non radiofonicamente quanto televisivamente.La mia generazione e' cresciuta con la sua "Hit Parade" ma io lo amavo quando presentava e sapeva fare tutto.Poi stimavo tanto e stimo Johnny Dorelli.E le soubrettes dell'epoca.La mia maestra e' stata Isabella Biagini,lo sai.Anzi,se qualcuno sapesse dove si trova che mi metta in contatto.L'ho vista recentemente in un film col Piotta e Lando Buzzanca e lei era straordinaria e ironica come sempre.Il vero amore non si dimentica mai.Con qualcuna delle mie apprezzate avrei voluto lavorarci ma non e' nata l'occasione...
M-Ad esempio?
A-Con Minnie MInoprio.La chiamammo qualche anno fa anche per essere ospite in un mio programma ma non ci fu modo perche' aveva altri impegni.Gabriella Ferri non riusci' a venire perche' si era fratturata una gamba scivolando dalle scale.Sono stato molto colpito dalla sua scomparsa.Da piccolo ero innamorato anche di lei e lei era davvero bellissima.Mi sarebbe piaciuto lavorare con Marina Morgan che trovo intelligentissima e spiritosa.Cercai anche Lucia Poli ma lei si disse contraria all'idea del salotto stesso.Paolo Poli,ecco un mio altro riferimento di sempre.Che istrione!Non mi perdo una sua volta a teatro ed e' sempre sempre piu' bravo.
M-La fotografia?
A-La fotografia e' stata per me una necessita'.Un bagaglio fondamentale l'acquisizione delle luci che oggi mi servono.Ma uscivo dal disegno che per me era un mezzo per comunicare insieme alla scrittura.Non disegno piu' ma scrivo sempre.E sempre di piu'.Ma fa parte di me e non e' per tutti.La fotografia e' stata presa da me professionalmente allo stesso modo di tutte le altre mie storie artistiche.Ho avuto un grande privilegio e cioe' quello di essere stato istruito da un Maestro del bianco e nero vellutato,Mimmo Irrera,un nome in capo internazionale.Poi ho seguito degli stages con Thorimbert e altri nel mio periodo mIlanese.Mi piace molto Irina Jonesco ma anche Ann Leibovitz.Mi sarebbe piaciuto diventare un fotografo rock come Mick Rock o la Leibovitz,a parte un fotografo glamour.Poi sono passato alla regia.Ma insomma,basta!Ti sto raccontando la mia vita e mi sto sentendo vecchio!

A.Certo.nascono e a volte muoiono quando finisce una produzione.Ma qualcuno si e' pure sposato.

A-Ne parleremo piu' in la.A proposito di Jula De Palma,il mio sogno e' incontrarla.Vorrei raggiungerla appena possibile in Canada dove vive.Sono legatissimo a lei.E' una grande figura.Ho imparato le sue sfumature e poi c'e' qualcosa che mi lega a lei.Sarebbe stupendo poter realizzare un disco insieme a lei.Sai che sono l'unico che le rende un tributo in Italia?Mi e' stato prodotto recentemente un cd dove canto nove sue canzoni.Speriamo non si arrabbi ascoltandole.Ma anche tu sei stato il mio maestro di voce.Quindi tu,la De Palma e Bowie.Beh...non e' male?

A.M.-Certo!Oltre ad essere il motivo reale di orgoglio credo tantissimo nel futuro di questo progetto e nel mio futuro con questo progetto.Alla faccia della scaramanzia come spesso invece non si fa nel mondo dello spettacolo.Ma questa e' "roba seria"!"Sibilla" e' il salotto delle Culture.Le Culture con la C maiuscola.Le culture del mondo,la cultura del mondo.Promuovero',anzi promuoveremo la cultura straniera come ti dicevo,presente in Italia attraverso la presenza ospite delle Missioni Diplomatiche presso Lo Stato Italiano di ciascun Paese nel salotto televisivo.

A.M.-Sono stato messo in contatto con i vari Enti Nazionali e non del Turismo di questi Paesi,poi con gli Istituti di cultura,poi mi si sono avvicinate le Cattedre Specialistiche dei vari Atenei Universitari e questi ultimi diverranno la nostra redazione scientifica,a partire dall'Universita' degli Studi di Roma La Sapienza e Roma Tre,e tante altre come l’Orientale di Napoli e altre minori ma eccellentissime.
P.G.-Come farai ad ospitare tutta questa gente?
A.M.-Ovviamente non potro' farlo tranne alcuni casi dove sia richiesta una presenza extra.Per questo nasce l'idea prima del sito poi del portale.Attorno ad ogni Paese ci sono infinite realta' d'interesse e studio.Io le ho raccolte tutte in termini di patrocini morali.Daro' spazio a tutti questi link e creero' un forum.Capisci che una Missione Diplomatica propone gli aspetti piu' positivi e propositivi del proprio Paese e sessanta minuti gia' sono pochi per questo tipo di visibilita'.Altre realta' parallele,potrebbero creare una non serenita' all'equilibrio del programma.Ma c'e' bisogno anche di altre voci.E allora perche' non creare un movimento in rete?

A.M.-Su piu’ fronti ma non ho perseguito.Il rischio di politicizzare equivale a banalizzare.Sarebbe certo piu’ facile per me poter andare piu’ veloce seguendo certi binari.A dir il vero pensavo di trovare una “madrina” per lo spazio di approfondimento sui Pari Diritti.E’ una cosa che in un certo senso ho gia’ fatto.Non e’ per essere ripetitivo.Penso che a volte le formule,se collaudate e vincenti,possono essere riproposte,ma non per sempre.Qui il paesaggio e’ piu’ vasto rispetto a “CurvePericolose”.Li’ la Donna Italiana,qui la Donna nel Mondo.

A.M.-Ho pensato allo spazio ma non alla figura in particolare.Ci sono un paio di figure che reputo interessanti,valide e secondo me adatte per l’argomento ma devo rifletterci.Trattasi di persone schieratissime che inevitabilmente apporterebbero un colore politico ad un programma che di politica non tratta,ma forse la circoscrive da lontano.Te lo diro’ piu’ in la se ci sara’ o forse sara’ una sorpresa.Queste comunque sono scelte di co-produzione e forse non potro’ decidere proprio tutto da solo.Non lo so…

A.M.-Ti dico allora che non e’ solo il mio alter ego nel programma in quanto ho deciso di scrivere,o se vuoi riscrivere,il format e personalizzarlo grazie a questa dirompente conoscenza che ho fatto.Per me e’ la prima volta.Non sono un autore nel senso classico della parola,o meglio stile squadra Rai.Sono un solitario.Non amo essere corretto su certe linee perche’ sono convinto che possono funzionare in base al mio senso captativi.Sembrero’ arrogante.Pero’ non ho mai neanche preteso di convincere qualche struttura ad acquistare un tipo di format che agli altri sembrava sperimentale e per me normale. Sono sempre sceso in campo e avviato i mezzi per poter rendere possibile tutto cio’.Magari convincendo pubblicitari perplessi a vendere il mio prodotto che spesso non capivano.

A.M.-Sinceramente si.Se qualche volta,ma solo una o due,il progetto non si e’ reso esecutivo non e’ stato per questo motivo,intendo la vendibilita’.Ma piuttosto per ragioni umane o altre non dipendenti da me.Ma e’ un discorso sterile….Anche questa volta e’ cosi’.Sono alla ricerca ma spero presto di ottimizzare di un referente intelligente e colto,e ovviamente dotato di mezzi che possa permettermi di poter rendere visibile un lavorane che mi e’ costato quasi un anno di relazioni qui e li.Ma non mi e’ pesato.

A.M.-Non staro’ qui a tediarti su come l’ho conosciuta anche perche’ non credo sia interessante.Non voglio sembrare ne’ il suo pigmalione,talent scout o altro.Credo che,a volte,il destino ti faccia imbattere in persone che gia’ istintivamente e dal primo momento,sai,che faranno parte del tuo percorso,della vita,che avranno una posizione importante e che saranno parte di te.Monia Binni ,te ne accennavo,e’ una persona brillante e con un senso di forza che mi ha trasmesso fuori dal comune.La forza e questo senso ce le danno le storie personali e nessuno ne e’ esente.Ma non tutti manifestano.Lei irradia,almeno con me e’ successo cosi’,questo senso di interiorita’.E mi ha colpito.Siamo diametralmente opposti.Il mio senso mistico ed esoterico e per molti da sognatore va a confrontarsi con il suo aspetto razionale e pratico,ma comunque serio e maturo.E lucido.Forse avevo bisogno proprio di questo.poi ha un background interessante per quanto giovane,e fortunatamente fuori dalle malate logiche dello spettacolo.Una sana.Ma sai che rarita’…mi sento fortunato.

A.M-Non e’ banalizzare…Quando si cerca una figura per una conduzione si fanno dei casting e si cerca anche un volto,un corpo,una voce ma fortunatamente,almeno per la tipologia dei format che tratto,anche dell’altro.In questo caso tutto e’ stato abbastanza particolare.Ma ripeto,non voglio romanzare un incontro perche’ poi mi pento o mi sento a posteriori stupido o incompreso.Certo.Sono rimasto inizialmente colpito da mOnia Binni e successivamente affascinato.Pero’ mi fermo qui.Quel che ci tengo a dire e’ che sono orgoglioso di questa scelta e sono certo della coppia artistico professionale.Io imparero’ molto da lei e dalla sua forza giovane e insieme ci daremo tanto.Sara’ una fantastica esperienza e su questo non ho dubbi.I tempi di attesa,di ricerca,di pre-produzione,come sai,sono dei test splendidi per verificare quello che poi sara’.Talaltro penso che sia un personaggio da scoprire e poco alla volta.E’ una giornalista medico scientifica e io sono un artista prima di essere un produttore o un autore televisivo o altro.Sara’ divertente.

A.M.-Mi piacerebbe dicessi del tuo progetto e di Monia Binni.Quello dello sviluppo editoriale e’ nato da una sorta di brain storming con un responsabile culturale di un Ambasciata mentre pensavamo ad una presentazione un po’ diversa di quel Paese.Mi disse che e’ la prima volta ,certamente qui in Italia,che i Paesi Stranieri vengono presentati sotto l’aspetto culturale invece che turistico:in televisione in effetti,a parte alcuni esempi Rai,parlando di tv generalista,non abbiamo altri esempi.Hanno tentato con formule di rotture che ancora mi sembra perseguino per ragioni di vincoli contrattuali.Eppure non e’ stato apprezzato da qualche Paese quel modo di trattare la materia.Noi tratteremo i viaggi ma filtrati attraverso la nostra sensibilita’ e anche il punto di vista della Rappresentanza Diplomatica che ci permette tutto cio’.O di chi investe in questo tipo di iniziativa e ci da una mano,e mi riferisco agli Uffici del Turismo o gli Enti Nazionali del Turismo.Pero’ aspetta che vada in onda qualcosa e poi ne riparleremo.Anche sulle scelte estetiche e tecniche.Editorialmente potrebbe nascere un bel lavoro a lunga gettata.Anche qui non voglio andare oltre.

My name is Paula, the one who used to date Robert Lee Brooks (Wright). I am hoping that you remember me from East 81st Street/Hough Avenue. We all used to hang out on the corner of East 81st (and Phil's Bar-B-Que...eating chicken wings). I met you and the Imperial Wonders one day while you all were singing on the corner of 81st Street....I think you had a manager named 'TOP CAT' (I never knew his real name--just that he lived in the building on the corner of East 81st). In fact, that is the day I met Robert Lee Brooks (Wright), walking down the street on my way to League Parks swimming pool. ^:^
I am very impressed with your bio. It brought back a lot of memories. I remember how you were that 'little skinny, cute, shy kid singing with Robert, Kennedy, Larry, and several others...I also remember Eddie Levert, particularly because he was always hanging around East 81st and 82nd Streets.
Well, just wanted to say hi...Sorry I missed you when you were in Cleveland about 2 1/2 or 3 years ago. YOu had stopped by to visit a family member of mine on Cedar.
By the way, my daughter (Robert and mine) is a singer as well .. Her name is Bonita and she is the lead female singer in a group called 'SOUL'D OUT' here in Cleveland. She's an Assistant Clerk for Judge C. Sweeney at Juvenile Court during the week and sings on the weekend. Prayerfully, she too, will make it in the music industry one day....^:^ She does have a great manager and is under Champagyne Entertainment's label.

Unfortunately I was still a toddler in those days, so I don't remember any of the music. Hay Al, Just want to refresh your memory about how you met Eddie Lavert. I Know you must have forgotten. Think back, must have been around 1966 on a Sunday afternoon, on 105th and Superior or was it St Clair at a place called the KEITH Theater, The place was packed and you guys were blowing the roof off the mother sucker I was standing in the Lobby and recognized Eddie. I introduced myself; he asked me who you guys were. After the show, he wanted to me the group. I escorted him back stage. I think you were about 16 or 17 years old at the time. I hope this shakes your memory. I do not want any credit. By the way I saw Lou Ragland's email, Talk to you later.

I had a group back in the sixties called the Shannettes. There were four of us. Adria Davis, Laverne Mclemore, Sherri Strange and myself Valerie Byrd. we sang all over Cleveland and met up and sang with the imperial Wonders on several occasions. I use to have a major crush on a guy named Henry who was in the group at the time. Could this possibly be the same group?

I met Al Boyd in the 60's when my eldest child's father, Robert Lee Brooks (Wright) was a member...They practiced their singing and guitar playing on the corner of East 81st & Hough Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio...Sorry I missed you when you were here a couple of years ago Al when you stopped by to visit my cousin Linda......Hope to see you again someday and also hoping that you remember who I am as well...:-)

Good Luck.....I saw you guys at the Golden Cocktail Lounge in 1973 and you where the greatest....At that time you guys where standing alone in Cleveland as the number on 5 piece singing group. Glad to hear ya still doing it.

I'm sorry to say this but The Ponderosa Twins RULED Cleveland between 1971 and 1973. The Imperial Wonders took a close second place. Both groups where produced by Bobby Massey. How do I know....I was there I played guitar with both groups. Just ask Bobby Massey to check his royalty statements. The Ponderosa Twin got standing ovations on every performance they did and that's a fact G. Ask Dunn Pearson. Tony Wilson Chuck Brown. Bobby Massey too. I just wanted to set the story straight.
