I Was thinkin about the group and decided to try and use the computer to get info on You Guys. I have been a fan of the group and singing every since that day in 1965 or 1966 when My family was moving into 1821 E 86 St. and Al,Kenny,Leo and maybe Robert Brooks walked pass the house with an accoustic guitar and singing"Gypsy Woman". I was mesmerized. From that day until now,I still believe that there is nothing more soulful than 4 or 5 part harmonies with a simple music line. I was 10 or 11 yers old. That Summer I fell in love with music, I followed You Guys around every chance I got. If I wasn't so quiet & shy I would probable have a histroy of music & singing behind Me ,instead of felling like a frustated entertainer (smile). If Leroi is around, Hi, have not seen You since the"Lakeveiw Terrance"years off West 25th and Detroit, over there with Earl the guitar player & his singing Girlfriend Nicey. Anyway, I am glad that I stubbled on to this cite, and I Hope Your Lives Are Filled With Love and Blessings.

Hey Al read the Bio and it brought back many memories and made me realize how long I have been out here, by the way you mispelled The Sahib's but it was nice that you remembered, we were some what the start of it all but never recorded as a group. Lou Ragland, Art Blakey, Bennie Butcher, Joe Yancy, James Dotson, and myself were setting the table for you guys and I must say you all did great and it's not over yet, The Hesitations are now former member of the Sahib's and we are going to Wales UK next week to perform, maybe one day we can get all of Cleveland's remaining groups together for one big concert. Take care and stay in touch.

I have to agree with the guitarist about The Ponderosa Twins Plus One ruling C-Town from 1971 to 1973. They were bad. Young guys who often sang in short hot pants like outfit. I co-wrote their song "I Remember You." However, The Imperial Wonders were the bomb as well. I was talking with Lawrence Johnson who played drums for Oddysey & Company and upon mentioning the Imperial Wonders he immediately burst into a verse of "Turned Around Over You." And who didn't like "Trying To Get To You?" The IW was the closet thing to the Temptations possible. Wass Up Al? Lost your number. And less not forget True Movement who sang like birds on the lilting, "A Lovely Way To Meet."

April 5, 2007

Hi Al:

My name is Paula, the one who used to date Robert Lee Brooks (Wright). I am hoping that you remember me from East 81st Street/Hough Avenue. We all used to hang out on the corner of East 81st (and Phil's Bar-B-Que...eating chicken wings). I met you and the Imperial Wonders one day while you all were singing on the corner of 81st Street....I think you had a manager named 'TOP CAT' (I never knew his real name--just that he lived in the building on the corner of East 81st). In fact, that is the day I met Robert Lee Brooks (Wright), walking down the street on my way to League Parks swimming pool. ^:^

I am very impressed with your bio. It brought back a lot of memories. I remember how you were that 'little skinny, cute, shy kid singing with Robert, Kennedy, Larry, and several others...I also remember Eddie Levert, particularly because he was always hanging around East 81st and 82nd Streets.

Well, just wanted to say hi...Sorry I missed you when you were in Cleveland about 2 1/2 or 3 years ago. YOu had stopped by to visit a family member of mine on Cedar.

By the way, my daughter (Robert and mine) is a singer as well .. Her name is Bonita and she is the lead female singer in a group called 'SOUL'D OUT' here in Cleveland. She's an Assistant Clerk for Judge C. Sweeney at Juvenile Court during the week and sings on the weekend. Prayerfully, she too, will make it in the music industry one day....^:^ She does have a great manager and is under Champagyne Entertainment's label.

Nice talking to you Al.....So happy that you made it and didn't waste your life away on nothing....^:^

Bonita Wright

March 6, 2007

Hi. It's a wonder seeing your website. My father, Robert Lee Wright (Brooks) was one of the original members back in the late 60's. Unfortunately I was still a toddler in those days, so I don't remember any of the music. One thing my father passed on to me is the love of music...I am currently an entertainer myself, and am very busy. Keep up the good work, and please advise me of the latest regarding the group.

February 12, 2007

you don't have to put the younghearts in on your story line. You could have kep that to yourself. You were never a true youngheart and you never will. Don't hate.......

January 26, 2007

Hay Al, Just want to refresh your memory about how you met Eddie Lavert. I Know you must have forgotten. Think back, must have been around 1966 on a Sunday afternoon, on 105th and Superior or was it St Clair at a place called the KEITH Theater, The place was packed and you guys were blowing the roof off the mother sucker I was standing in the Lobby and recognized Eddie. I introduced myself; he asked me who you guys were. After the show, he wanted to me the group. I escorted him back stage. I think you were about 16 or 17 years old at the time. I hope this shakes your memory. I do not want any credit. By the way I saw Lou Ragland's email, Talk to you later.

January 24, 2007

Hi guys you have intersting site
A loy of thanks.

Lou Ragland

November 27, 2006

Hey Imperial Wonders;

I want you to know that my production career started, when I produced your first few 45's

I know it must have been a long time ago for you to remember, but I did and my name is on the records. I do thank all of you for the chance to become the record producer that I am today.

peace and music,

August 21, 2006

Hey man you could do this music today. Keep it up. Much Love

Valerie Byrd Jordan

June 7, 2006

I had a group back in the sixties called the Shannettes. There were four of us. Adria Davis, Laverne Mclemore, Sherri Strange and myself Valerie Byrd. we sang all over Cleveland and met up and sang with the imperial Wonders on several occasions. I use to have a major crush on a guy named Henry who was in the group at the time. Could this possibly be the same group?

May 31, 2006

I met Al Boyd in the 60's when my eldest child's father, Robert Lee Brooks (Wright) was a member...They practiced their singing and guitar playing on the corner of East 81st & Hough Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio...Sorry I missed you when you were here a couple of years ago Al when you stopped by to visit my cousin Linda......Hope to see you again someday and also hoping that you remember who I am as well...:-)

Had the pleasure of viewing another site of your's ...WONDERFUL! Keep up the good work...Like the way you kept the story straight!

Take care..

Ellen Vaughn

May 31, 2006

I've had the pleasure of hearing these talented brothers sing way back in the year 1976 at the Road South in Cleveland Ohio.

Mr. Al Boyd and Mr. Russell Watts keep up the good work.

April 7, 2006

I had wondered why this group never made any new songs and in the bio why isn't walter chaney listed?

Malcome James

March 8, 2006

Good Luck.....I saw you guys at the Golden Cocktail Lounge in 1973 and you where the greatest....At that time you guys where standing alone in Cleveland as the number on 5 piece singing group. Glad to hear ya still doing it.

The Ponderosa Twins Plus One

March 8, 2006

I'm sorry to say this but The Ponderosa Twins RULED Cleveland between 1971 and 1973. The Imperial Wonders took a close second place. Both groups where produced by Bobby Massey. How do I know....I was there I played guitar with both groups. Just ask Bobby Massey to check his royalty statements. The Ponderosa Twin got standing ovations on every performance they did and that's a fact G. Ask Dunn Pearson. Tony Wilson Chuck Brown. Bobby Massey too. I just wanted to set the story straight. I aint no hater!
